Due to a pothole we hit
at the end of week 41, we had to have our car fixed at a garage in Darwin. It
replaced some bent shackles on the suspension. We waited till Wednesday morning
bevor we could drive on. in the meantime we expirienced temperatures around 35
degrees celsius and almost 100% humidity. The 4 days we stayed in Darwin were
mostly spent around the pool, in order for us to recharge our own batteries so
to speak. Almost every day we had a pretty severe storm for maybe half an hour
or so. Wednesday itself started with some pretty bad pounding rain, suggesting
that the wet season would start this year about a month earlier. So we
definately need now to make way to the Kimberley's before it is to late. On
the way to the Kimberley's we visited pictoresque Butterfly Gorge, were a lot
of Butterflies take refuge, as well as the Douglas Hot Springs nearby. We
stayed in Katherine for the Night. Just before we reached Katherine, we got
again into a severe Thunderstorm which lasted around 2 hours. The next day we
drove on towards Kununarra, the starting point for the Kimberley region.
From Kununarra we drove to Wyndham, visiting the 5 River lookout and a 20
m long sculpture of a saltwater crocodile as well as a nearby prison boab
tree. From here on we visited El Questro station with many beautiful
natural features like the Zebedee Hot Springs, El Questro-, Emma- and
Chamberlain Gorge. |
