25th to 31st October 1999 (Week 43)

-----------------

At the Beginning of this week we visited the Bungle Bungles (Purnululu National Park). The Bungle Bungles cover an Area of around 20 km by 30 km. They are a Sandstone Plateau around 350 Million years old rising up to 300 m above the surrounding country. the water run offs of the heavy rains in the Wet Season have created breathtaking canyons. First we explored the area on foot and choose on the last day to book a scenic heli flight. One of the best expiriences we had ever. Could only have been topped by nicer weather.

From here we drove onwords to Fitzroy Crossing were we visited Geikie Gorge. After getting the Information that Bell Gorge would be closed on Friday Morning, we drove there the next day. On the following day we made our way to Mt. Barnet visiting the Adcock, Galvan and Barnet Gorges. After staying over night at Mt. Barnet Roadhouse, we walked to Manning Gorge in the morning for a refreshing swim and some sun basking, afterwards we drove onto Windjana Gorge where we walked along the Reef Walk and stayed for the night. Our next stop on Sunday was Broome.
